The Artist - Eric Gaskell
After leaving art college in 1980 Eric Gaskell has continued working in the creative industries; painting, illustrating, and teaching. He has exhibited work in America, Canada, Belgium, Spain, Ireland and throughout the UK as a painter and printmaker. For Gaskell the ethos of good draftsmanship is key and when combined with strong composition it becomes the linchpin of his work. Gaskell's work moves from tightly figurative to symbolic/iconographic in a colourful and structured way. His printmaking preference is the linocut, were the colour processes and physical mark-making suit his current working methods. As a draftsman and painter, he revels in the way that linocuts have an immediacy, but in truth can take many weeks to produce. He is known for his colourful linocuts and work around the canals of the UK.
