I paint for pleasure and to satisfy the curiosity of deep observation. In art, as in life, careful observation deepens understanding and with a career spent on and around the sea I get most inspiration from watching the maritime environment and the people who live and work in it.  My preferred medium is watercolour:  I find the challenge of successfully combining this independently-minded paint in combination with the selected surface highly satisfying, with the added excitement posed by the often-irreversible jeopardy or happy accident of mistakes.
