The Artist - Simon YoungSimon’s studio is in Saltash overlooking the Tamar, the inspiration for much of his work. Whilst in the military he found time to get the brushes out; being a 'soldier and painter' worked well; deployments to various countries provided many painting opportunities. A nomadic lifestyle led to sketching in ink and painting watercolours became the norm. His travels stimulated interest in light, colour, form and perspective and was mentored by Ken Howard OBE RA. Now retired, Simon enjoys painting plein-air around the southwest coastline and elsewhere, but is equally at home with ‘dogtraits’, portraits, townscapes, houses and works mainly in watercolour. He enjoys working to commission and running workshops for art groups. In the past 10 years he has won the Patchings Artist Magazine annual exhibition award and the Strathmore Artist Papers prize at the Mall Galleries, London. | |
