Alan was born in Surrey where he studied at the Wimbledon School of Art and the Guildhall School of Music, London. Although he pursued a career in music for many years he nonetheless continued to paint throughout this time. Since moving to Devon he has worked principally as a painter and has exhibited widely in the South West. In 2012 he received the SWAc’s Lionel Aggett painting prize. Paintings are mostly based on landscape but abstraction allows him to explore inner qualities of mood and feeling.
