A sculptor and ceramicist Liz Watts creates work in clay, bronze and papier-mâché. After 12 years as a veterinary surgeon, she moved to France in1992 where she studied sculpture and ceramics at l’Atelier des Beaux-Arts Henri Matisse, Creil, along with being taught porcelain overglaze painting techniques by skilled crafts women in Chantilly. She now produces work which combine these skills. Liz has a particular passion for porcelain, for its tactile strength after firing and for its ability to take colour. She is an image chaser, and during hand building her ideas develop as pieces grow. She often builds pieces in layers, playing with reflective surfaces and sculptures within those layers. Shapes formed become a canvas to paint on. She was honoured to be elected a full member of The Society of Women Artists, (SWA) in 2022.
