The Artist - Alison Gill
I design and make contemporary copper figures, animals and decorative pieces from my home on the edge of Dartmoor - my first animal being inspired by an untidy sheep I met whilst walking on the Western Beacon. I love the colour and malleability of copper and also how it changes according to the environment in which it is placed. Each piece takes shape as I twist, bend, hammer, join and polish, creating features that add to its unique character. As an amateur musician I became interested in making figures of musicians, several of which are exhibited in this unusual ensemble. The instruments are representations rather than exact copies, rather like the figures playing them. They can be moved around so you can have fun arranging them as you wish!
