The Magnolia

Helen trained in Fine Arts and later in ceramics. She lectures in drawing on B.A (Hons.) degree courses. Her sculptures are exhibited and collected in this country and abroad. The portraits which are modelled from life are carefully selected or commissioned before they are modelled and then fired or cast. She is renowned for her skill in historical portraiture. I am inspired by the human figure as observed in everyday action and prefer to work from drawings and maquettes before translating these into the ceramic sculpture. I collect and refer to my now considerable collection of inspirational objects and feel lucky to have access to the fine rock strata of nearby beaches of South Devon. Helen was elected as a full member of the South West Academy in January 2020.
