Emergence

I have been carving stone from the age of twenty, it has become my lifelong passion. I have had a fine arts training and trained as a stone carver and adult tutor.I worked for 16 years as a Adult Learning tutor in south Devon and I now run a established stone carving programme from my studio on the Dartington Hall Estate. Being trained by stone masons and professional in the world of stone carving ,l have extensive knowledge of how stone behaves and what each stone can give and allow you to do when carving it. My sculptures are very intuitive, l work with the stone not against it ,which is a very freeing way to carve.My themes are always about the human condition and the female form.l draw on my spiritual and unconscious thoughts when carving and often use metaphors to describe a feeling, such as water for emotions or roots for strength. l like to carve with Limestone, Marble,Alabaster and Soapstone, they all have such different qualities and energy that is very inspirational to work with.
