The Watcher

Karen Nicol studied Art Foundation and then BA (Hons) Multidisciplinary Design.  "I worked as a photographer, specialising in portraiture, but loved exploring the texture and warmth of fabric and the stitched line" In her studio on the edge of Dartmoor she learnt to draw with her sewing machine, and now combines her passions to create characterful, original framed freehand machine-embroidered pieces.  Initially inspired by the graceful form and soulful expressions of the family Whippets, and her collection of vintage fabrics, she depicts a variety of creatures in novel ways. She sews the quirky, beautiful, magical, whimsical and sometimes touching. A large part of her work is commissioned, both at home and internationally, and she finds this diversity very enjoyable.  Commissions and studio visits welcome.
